1. The first step to adding Bonus Points in a Weighted Grade Book is to open
the course Homepage and
click Grades.
2. Click Grades
3. Click New
4. Click Item
5. Click Numeric
6. Click the Text Box under Name and type in the name of the extra credit item. In this example, we will use Extra Credit.
7. Scroll down and add a description of the extra credit assignment, then click Allow users to view grade item description. This step is optional.
8. Scroll down, click and enter the Max Points a student can earn. Since this is in a weighted grade book, you can enter any number of points for the item. We will use 10 for this example.
9. Click Weight and enter the most you’d want the student’s final percentage grade to increase
if they earn all of the bonus points. For example, 3 - 5 is just enough to push a student over the
border of a grade. We will use 3. |
10. How to select the correct weight. Since, in this example, we are adding the extra
credit to the overall grade (not a particular assignment or category), the weight
will increase the final score by the percent (weight) indicated.
11. For example, a weight of 10 will increase the final
grade by 10%, or a full letter grade. See the chart for further examples. Click the screen when you are ready to continue. |
12. Click the Bonus checkbox so that any points entered for this item will only help student grades.
13. Click Save and Close
14. “Bonus Items” will have a yellow star icon on the “Manage Grades” page. That's it. You're done! |
